Like most people, I'm feeling mighty reflective on this last day of 2013. I don't know about you, but I'm still in denial about December actually being over. It whooshed by faster than I could keep up most days. But nonetheless, it was a memorable end to a memorable year, and I've got the pictures to prove it.
So with no further adieu, here's a few of my favorite snaps that never made it to Instagram. For the record, I think I may be the world's worst Instagrammer. But rest assured, photo lovers, that's just one of many things I hope to step up in 2014 (fingers crossed, anyway).
No doubt, this pic will make my northern friends chuckle, but December 2013 kicked off with a pretty big ice storm in DFW.
Yes, we got a good sprinkling of snow and pretty much the entire metroplex closed down. Lest you think Texans are big wimps, the lack of available salt and sand left the roads in really bad shape (think: an ice skating rink for the masses). Not surprisingly, driving was all kinds of dangerous.
To wit, it was impossible to even get to your car without falling on your rumpus. And for someone as uncoordinated as me, well, it was better that I stayed indoors.
While I work at home anyway, I must confess that a few days without going anywhere (not even Starbucks) wasn't a bad thing in the least.
In fact, being snowed in was all kinds of laidback fun. I made lots of homemade soup to keep our bellies warm and cranked up the heat while I finished my deadlines in my pajamas.
Life was rough, I tell ya.
Incidentally, this is a shot of our back yard since snow here is basically a novelty. It conveniently melted before my brother (the last remaining Wisconsinite) made his way to DFW, though.
