After a very long, very stubborn holdout, I've finally done it. I've joined Pinterest.
By the way, I'm blaming all things pumpkin for hopping on the bandwagon. When I was in Colorado visiting my family, my sister was looking up potential Halloween goodies for her daughter Adelyn's class. And after seeing all the great ideas, namely the delicious pumpkin desserts, I was hooked.
As it turns out, there's lots of cool stuff on Pinterest. It reminds me of an online version of one of Oprah's favorite things, the "vision board." Whenever you're needing that extra push in pursuing whatever you feel compelled to do in life, one of the magic elixirs Oprah often suggests is cutting out inspiring images from magazines and pasting them on a large posterboard. Once you're finished, you place it somewhere you're bound to see it, and cue the Chariots of Fire theme, you're suddenly on the road to productivity.
Now I've always thought that vision boards sounded a little hokey. If you really want to do something, how is cutting out pictures of butterflies and the beautiful English countryside going to help you? But what I realized is Pinterest is like that, minus the mess.
For a neatnik like me who doesn't have patience for cutting and pasting, that's pretty appealing. Plus, there's recipes for sinful treats, namely pumpkin snickerdoodles. While they may not help me change the world, they'll probably make a few people smile (myself included), so that's something, right?
